tell me why

I've been singing on my own again
Feeling sunshine in my hair
Singing love songs
Rock'n'roll again
Revolution in the air
Tell me why
Would you hurt someone

Tell me why
Show me you care
Tell me why
Would you hurt someone
Tell me why
And will you be there

Please don't tell me that I'm wrong again
I couldn't stand it anyhow
First, I got hungry
Then I got strong again
And if I'm wrong - well, anyhow

Tell me why
Show me you care
Tell me why
Would you hurt someone
Tell me why
And will you be there

I've been singing on my own again
I caught the feeling in the air ...

the twelfth of july

I remember skimming stones
Pavement chairs and ice cream cones
Standing on the corner looking over
My grandmother's hedge
I remember waving a flag
Holding on tight to my lucky bag
Spreading whatever I got
On the window ledge

I could never understand
What we did and why

Hey baby, it's the Twelfth of July
Hey honey, it's the Twelfth of July
How can I explain
The other side of the sky
(The other side of the sky)

I remember looking down tall
On the marching bands
I was feeling so small
Running to the corner shop
With the change in my hand

There was drummers drumming
Everybody coming
Flags waving, crazy paving
And every note they played had a violence
I couldn't understand

I remember what they did
But I never worked out why
Hey baby, it's the Twelfth of July
Hey honey, it's the Twelfth of July

How can I explain
The other side of the sky
(The other side of the sky)

Now I thought this evening when it looked like you were leaving
The TV was on it was the marching season
You asked me what it was like growing up a young man in that place -
Didn't know what to say

Well tonight's the night
We're gonna go out tonight
Put your best shoes on pull your collar up tight
'Cause if you don't you will only break my heart

The distant past has all gone wrong
We lost it all for the lack of a song
Me - I can only make a start
I remember what we did
But I never worked out why
I could never understand
What we did and why

Hey baby, it's the Twelfth of July
Hey sugar, it's the Twelfth of July
I'm trying to explain
The other side of the sky

I can hear the thunder of a marching band
I can feel the change burning hot in my hand
The other side of the sky

The Twelfth of July

let it be me

I was standing on the Halfpenny Bridge on a Monday morning
I was watching all of my troubles floating by
I can't keep on asking my religion for an answer
I got alternative therapy It's giving me a natural high

You know I got that leaving feeling
And I've been waiting all of my life ...

I'm going where the sun is shining
I'm going where the water is blue
I'm gonna buy a one way ticket
So Lord if you've someone to choose
Let it be me

So what you gonna do about tomorrow
I can see the jet trails cross the sky
Everybody's leaving on a 747
Sitting in an aeroplane and
Leaving all of their troubles behind

You know I've got that leaving feeling
And I've been waiting all of my life ...

I'm going where the sun is shining
I'm going where the water is blue
I'm gonna buy a one way ticket
So Lord if you've someone to choose
Let it be me

You know I've always had that feeling on the inside
I always tried to hide that feeling on the outside

I'm driving on the Sydney Harbour Bridge on a Friday evening
The stars look closer underneath this magical sky
You turned to me, but I'm still looking for the answer
If it all falls down, at least we're gonna give it a try

You know I've got that leaving feeling
I've been waiting all of my life ...

I'm going where the sun is shining
I'm going where the water is blue
I'm gonna buy a one way ticket
So Lord if you've someone to choose
Let it be me

canadian greyhound

I'm on a Greyhound Bus travelling across the Canadian prairie
Watching Jim Carrey looking somewhat scary
He's worried, tousled, bloody, bruised
In a celebrity kind of way
I wish I had his salary
But not my discarded towels for sale on e bay
Or his average kind of day

I wanna be on this Greyhound Bus
Travelling across the Canadian prairie
Right here right now
On this particular day

With the clouds hanging over the 360 degree horizon
And the big sky above

We're passing a town called Balzac
Only cows for companions
Resting cows dotted in fields
Resting cows and Jim Carrey looking scary
That is to say not very scary
Tousled, bloody and extremely famous

The cows are now displaying all the poses cows can do
Two horses stand to attention
The sky is getting bluer
And the clouds more majestic

And the movie is called Majestic
But the real movie is outside this Greyhound
As the panorama unfolds
And the credits go on forever

A Porsche, a red deer warning sign
An empty country graveyard
(The dead have a lot of room around here)

I hear that Jim Carrey requires a trailer for his dog on film sets
A trailer as big as this Greyhound
A Greyhound as big as Jim Carrey
An ego as big as a trailer

But not as big as the big sky outside this Greyhound
Overtaking posing cows, horses at attention
Balzac and another town called Airdrie
Being overtaken only by
The Porsche
Jim Carrey looking scary
And Jim Carrey's dog's ego
(Which is unfair on the dog who doesn't care if he's in a shack or a mansion
So long as Jim feeds and cuddles him)

Now Jim is soundlessly dancing With one beautiful girl (blonde)
When a second beautiful girl (dark)
Arrives and looks longingly towards him
And his chin

Two old and therefore famous American actors
Do a lot of character acting
As we skirt a town called Didsbury
And the big sky swallows all that lies beneath it -

Majestic clouds
Horses and cows
The Greyhound
Jim Carrey
Jim Carrey's dog
Jim Carrey's dog's imaginary trailer
Jim Carrey's dog's ego's imaginary trailer
Me thinking of you
And the road disappears like credits Into the big sky

I'm glad I'm on a Greyhound Bus
Travelling across the Canadian prairie

I'm on a Greyhound Bus
