andy white radio cover

andy white radio

The new world wide white CD is based around a Dutch radio session Andy and David Crichton played in early 2000, a BBC interview Andy did last autumn with Tom Robinson for his evening show, and another BBC session recorded after the 'andy white' album.

Andy writes the story of the sessions in the sleeve notes:

"There is a special feeling about a good radio session recording. Radio studios have old microphones. If you ask, someone who cares about them will know where they are. The dust makes everything sound grainy. Radio squeezes the sounds, like a 1964 acoustic guitar record where the guitar swells when the singing stops to fill the space where the vocal was. Where the harmonica can never get too loud ...

Often people involved in radio sessions send you recordings of them. This one I played in Melbourne one summer afternoon, and after I was asked to turn it up twice, I thought I should put it on this 'world wide white' radio CD. I hope you agree."
